Transparent choice
Giving users the choice of benefiting from our personalised content and advertising technology as well as our built in online fraud protection, is at the heart of our privacy protections.
It all starts with an unmissable webpage. Users will be presented with an invitation page the first time they go online after their ISP has decided to adopt the Phorm system. This will enable the user to find out more about the service and give him or her the option of switching it on or off.
Users are able to change their mind at any time either via the content widget or their ISP’s portal.
If users decide that Webwise isn’t for them for any reason, they’ll be able to switch it off at the account level or at their internet connection. Their ISP will record the decision, usually after the user has proved that they are the account holder. This means that if they choose to opt out, then any users on the connection will have no interaction whatsoever with the Webwise system.
If they switch Webwise on at the account level, however, others using the internet connection can switch the service off at the browser level (either by blocking the Webwise.net domain or accepting the Webwise “opted out” cookie).
